Do you want less stress, less frustration and more motivation in life? Then take advantage of the easy wins. There are easy wins everywhere if you look for them.
It’s easy to eat an apple a day. It’s also easy not to.
“Easy wins” give us a lot of bang for the buck.
- Getting to bed by 10 pm
- Moving our bodies for 30 minutes three times a week
- Eating primarily vegetables and clean proteins
- Filling a crock-pot with tonight’s dinner
There are easy wins everywhere waiting for us to grab them and implement them into our lifestyle. So why don’t we do them?
If someone came up to you and offered you a $100 to move your body three times for 30 minutes in the next week, you would do it! So why don’t we do it without the incentive?
That’s an age-old question and one I’m sure you’ve asked yourself many times. “I know what I should do, why don’t I do it?” I know I should exercise, eat less sugar, get to bed earlier, stress less and eat clean foods.
Here are my thoughts……...I think we over-think it! Knowing is not doing. We can read all the articles (this blog), listen to podcasts, hear the latest health information on the TV or radio and yet, do nothing. So how do we get motivated to take action?
WE MAKE A DECISION!
In the root language, Latin, the word “Decision” means to “cut-off”. When we make a decision we cut-off any other avenue of escape, we don’t turn around, we don’t look back.
I remember when I made a decision that I was not going to grab a candy bar every time I checked out at the grocery store. Years ago this was a habit. Whenever I checked out my groceries I would grab a candy bar. It was “my little treat” that I afforded myself. I wasn’t perfect, but after a while I didn’t even think about doing it.
We can do the same thing with “adding something into” our lifestyle. We can decide to add in a vegetable (or additional vegetables) every day. Pretty soon it’s a habit. I’m so addicted to vegetables that when I can’t have something green every day I feel like I’m missing something!
Think About it…
Think about it while you read this. What easy win could I add into my daily routine? You may feel some resistance come up, that’s normal, patterns and habits are deeply ingrained in our sub-conscious mind. The mind wants to keep things status quo. We typically ask disempowering questions of ourselves like, “why do I always fail at diets?” Your mind will answer that for you no problem……” because you lack self-control because you’re lazy because you can’t get your act together!!!!” Now, how motivated do you feel???? Probably not at all!
Asking better questions of yourself can help you find solutions and actions steps. Questions such as “what would make it simple for me to add in a vegetable every day?” Your mind might answer right away or it may pop up sometime during the day with an answer such as “make a smoothie and add a handful of spinach to it, and while you’re at it, add in some blueberries for your brain health!” Super easy, fast and delicious!
Nothing makes me happier than to have someone email me or while we are chatting say, “I made a decision to make my health a priority. I started exercising and eating less sugar and I feel great!” It’s not as hard as you think! (Are you thinking too much??)
