First it was the Delta variant and now it’s the “Mu” variant…… do you feel like this will never end???
Everywhere I go people are wearing masks again. I’ve done much research on masks, only to find that the compilation of research shows they don’t work. If you want to take a deep dive on the science on this, you can read it here Masks Don’t Work – A Review of Science Relevant to COVID-19 Social Policy
On top of the mask dilemma, we now see the results in Israel one of the most vaccinated countries, showing a huge surge in cases. So what’s going on?
- Immunity from the vaccine dips over time
- The Delta variant is overwhelming even the vaccinated
- Signs that ADE, antibody dependent enhancement is occurring, very similar to antibiotic resistance
- We will continue to have mutations and new variants
So what do you do when you go out and are around people?
It can get very discouraging, making you want to avoid people, but please don’t! We need to have our social interactions, it’s so important for our mental health. So here are a couple tips to use while you enjoy your friends, family, church and yes, a trip to the grocery store.
#1 Take Zinc lozenges with you. When you are exposed to a pathogen it enters through the nose and mouth and sets up shop in the mucosal membranes. This is where viral replication begins. The goal is to stop that replication in its tracks before it moves down into the lungs. These mucosal linings are the “barrier” and first line of defense to prevent a pathogen from entering the body. Zinc is essential for preserving these tissue barriers.
Last year we traveled on an airplane for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We sucked on Zinc lozenges while on the plane and continued to while we were getting our luggage. We used Life Extension Zinc lozenges. You can find these in my on-line dispensary Wellevate.
This is a far better solution to prevention than wearing a mask. I think we have become so accustom to wearing them, believing they prevent the inhalation of the viral particle, that we are getting complacent about giving the body the tools it needs to stop the virus in it’s tracks.
#2 Over-the-counter nasal Spray. There is a new study that concludes Xlear kills and/or deactivates SARS COV-2 and its variants. You can read more HERE.
This in vitro study done collaboratively by Utah State University and Northwestern University found Xlear components of grapefruit seed extract and xylitol, to significantly eliminate the SARS-COV-2 virus in the mucosal lining. According to the study, “After a 25-minute contact time, the nasal spray reduced virus from 4.2 to 1.7 log10 CCID50 per 0.1 mL, a statistically significant reduction.”
I looked around for just grapefruit seed extract nasal spray and found this one, but it doesn’t have the xylitol. Grapefruit seed extract is available but the main controversy stems from study’s finding that some commercially produced grapefruit seed extracts contain harmful ingredients like benzethonium chloride and triclosan, so read your labels.
Based on the study results of Xlear, they have filed a “Pre-Emergency Use Authorization Request” with the FDA to help combat the COVID virus. It certainly is an easy item to carry with you and use after leaving a public area.
Stay Vigilant
Is this the time you get serious about getting that excess weight off your body, or kicking the soda or Starbucks habit, or not bringing the enemy into the house (ice cream, cookies, pastries??). Excess weight and low vitamin D continue to be the top two risk factors for a severe case of COVID.
Let me know how I might serve you to stay healthy during these interesting times!
