I don’t need to tell you this, that everything has changed since COVID-19. When I stop and think about it, I still can’t believe what has happened to our world in such a short amount of time. This is not the same world we were all used to living in. There is a palatable feeling of anxiousness about the future and the stress of waiting…….can you feel it?
I was on a “calibration” Zoom meeting this afternoon. The call was with a group of ladies who have gone through the Boot Camp for the Soul. This is a month-long group coaching program that challenges you to look deep into your soul, and set a direction for your life with solid, guiding principles. We come from many walks of life, employees, employers, and entrepreneurs. We meet monthly now to “calibrate” and stay on track with what we learned during Boot Camp. There was a lot to share since our last call in the first week of April when all of this had just started.
In the first week of Boot Camp, we talk about choosing “Faith Over Fear”. Today we revisited the subject to see how we were all doing. Had we learned anything during our time of isolation? What is going to change when things “get back to normal?” Unanimously we all talked about how this season has given us time to reflect on how we were living our life prior to COVID-19. How busy we were, how disconnected from family and friends, how work was more of a priority than our health, how we didn’t notice the small things, like flowers and birds on a walk. Everyone on the call has set an intention to not let that happen again, to practice more self-care and more connection to those they love.
Now more than ever we need to practice self-care. How we love and care for ourselves and how we love each other, not only impacts disease but also resilience, depression and anxiety, sleep issues, and performance.
Self-care is true healthcare!
This pandemic has left many folks with a fear of getting sick, fear of spreading the virus, fear for their financial future, a fear of how much government control is going to be exercised, how many freedoms will we lose, etc. etc. We are ordered to hunker down, stock up on provisions, and wait…not sure of what will happen.
This my friend, is the time we must practice self-care. This looks different for each one of us. Some share that they are watching less TV (great idea!), listening to relaxing music, going on more walks as the weather gets nice, playing games, doing puzzles, writing books, starting an on-line class, learning a new language, reading more and cooking again! What have you found to help lower your level of anxiousness about the future?
All of these can increase resiliency and that increases immunity. We are creating new environments in our homes, will we stay that way when this is all over?
This is a video that was shared on our Boot Camp Facebook page (only 4 minutes long) and I think it’s such a beautiful way to reflect on all this. Written and read by British artist and poet “Probably Tomfoolery”
Share with me what you are doing for “self-care” these days!
P.S. If you are interested in the Show Up Well Boot Camp for the Soul the next one starts the first week of June 2020 (ladies only 🙂
