The first randomized controlled trial of vitamin D in COVID-19 has just been published. The results are astounding: vitamin D nearly abolished the odds of requiring treatment in ICU. Although the number of deaths was too small to say for sure, vitamin D may actually abolish the risk of death from COVID-19.
We have been traveling for three weeks in Oregon and California, visiting family and good friends. We obviously have been exposed to more people than normal staying in motels and eating (outside) at restaurants. Once reaching our destinations we stayed around our friends and family and enjoyed outdoor activities. But, masks were mandatory everywhere we went.
As things start to open up more, are you venturing out? I have talked with some of my clients this week and I’m inspired. Many of them have truly redirected their lives to continue to live a healthy lifestyle. Some have turned spare rooms into personal fitness centers. Some started taking Yoga and Ti Chi classes on YouTube. Others are out walking more than they ever did before, and haven’t let the closures of their favorite places to go stop them from being outside.
First Hair Cut…
I ventured out for a hair appointment today, first hair cut in three months!! I did get a couple of bang cuts from my daughter to help me get through this LOL 🙂 I’ve also talked to clients who are very concerned about getting out around more people again. It doesn’t help that we have conflicting reports on should we wear a mask. Is COVID-19 transmitted from asymptomatic people? Does it live on surfaces, should we plan our trips where we have to fly, etc. etc.
Fear & Anxiety…
Fear and anxiousness lower your immune systems. If you are concerned about getting out and about, continue to do what makes YOU feel safe. If you have mastered the art of online shopping and delivery and you still want to do that, by all means, do it! Call ahead to places such as nail salons and hair salons. Ask what they are doing to help with the transmission. I heard of one nail salon that was beyond emphatic about separating clients, sanitizing all services, gloves on everyone. The person who had her nails done felt very comfortable with the environment.
Importance of our Immune…
It’s important to understand that our immune systems where use to us being exposed to viruses and bacteria every day as we lived our normal lives. Now that we have been sequestered and sanitized everything in site, we have actually put our immune systems in a lowered state. This is not the time to back off on your immune-boosting program. In fact, we are staying on everything “as if” it was April and we were just hearing about how contagious COVID-19 is. Typically by June, we are down to a minimal program with our supplements, but not this year. Since we have been in our new home we have had a plumber here, an HVAC guy, a guy to work on our swamp cooler. We’ve also had Lowe’s out to measure all our windows for blinds. Add to that trips to Walmart, Home Depot, hardware store (multiple times). As well as trips to Home Goods store, and grocery stores. Yep, we have been around LOT’S of people in the last two weeks, so the immune program is still on board!
As some of you are aware, when all this hit, the supplements flew off the virtual shelves and we couldn’t find things like vitamin C and Zinc for a month or more. It looks like manufacturers are getting back up to speed so I would suggest you stock up for the fall right now. If you haven’t already registered with my on-line dispensary here is the link to Wellevate and it takes a quick registration to access my top picks. If there is a brand you like that you don’t see, let me know and I’ll see if I can add it.
Speaking of sanitizing….most hand sanitizers have primarily alcohol in them. They do not have ingredients to moisturize your skin, and they can be very drying. I forgot to add this to my list of “what I’m loving now” from last week, Epoch Antiseptic Hand Sanitizer. Containing lavender, which was used by many early Roman, Greek, and European civilizations for its cleansing effects. It also contains Honey Suckle—an emollient used for its skin softening benefits. Epoch Antiseptic Hand Sanitizer kills 99.99% of the most common germs and bacteria. Unlike other formulas, it is nondrying and doesn’t damage nail polish. This is another Epoch product from Nuskin where a donation of $.025 for each product goes towards the NuSkin Force for Good Foundation. This is a nonprofit organization. It is committed to improving human life worldwide by continuing to protect indigenous cultures and fragile environments.
Many of you gave me your info last week and your accounts are set up to order. If you didn’t, all I need is your name, address, email, and phone and I’ll set you up with a Preferred Customer account so you can get 20-25% off!
Stay well, my friends!
I don’t need to tell you this, that everything has changed since COVID-19. When I stop and think about it, I still can’t believe what has happened to our world in such a short amount of time. This is not the same world we were all used to living in. There is a palatable feeling of anxiousness about the future and the stress of waiting…….can you feel it?
I’m seeing some wonderful pictures of food that people are cooking in quarantine. I’m also hearing some of you are getting tired of cooking! It’s wonderful that we are eating in more, but I too am ready to go out and have someone wait on me and have a nice meal…..can’t wait!
We keep hearing that those that are “immunocompromised” are at a higher risk for COVID-19, but what does that mean? Do you think of a person who has been going through chemotherapy? Do you think of a person in an assisted care facility with advanced age? What comes to mind for you?
